Dragon Ball: Advanced Adventure is a side-scrolling action and beat ’em up game developed by Dimps and released for the Game Boy Advance in 2004. Unlike most Dragon Ball games that focus on the Dragon Ball Z era, this title faithfully retells the adventures of young Goku from the original Dragon Ball series, from his first meeting with Bulma to the final battle against King Piccolo.

What is Dragon Ball: Advanced Adventure?

Dragon Ball: Advanced Adventure combines platforming, beat ’em up action, and one-on-one fighting mechanics into a single adventure. Players control young Goku as he travels across the Dragon Ball world, battles powerful enemies, collects Dragon Balls, and grows stronger throughout his journey.

Gameplay Overview

Action Platforming

Most stages are side-scrolling action levels where Goku runs, jumps, climbs, and defeats enemies using punches, kicks, the Power Pole, and Ki attacks. Hidden collectibles encourage exploration throughout every level.

One-on-One Battles

Major story encounters transform into traditional fighting game battles. These duels feature unique mechanics, special attacks, blocking, and combo systems that differ from the platforming sections.

Flying Stages

Certain missions allow players to fly on the Flying Nimbus, dodging obstacles while attacking airborne enemies in fast-paced action sequences.

Game Modes

  • Story Mode – Experience Goku’s original Dragon Ball adventure.
  • One-on-One Mode – Battle using unlocked characters.
  • Extra Mode – Replay stages while collecting hidden items.
